Character Artist (AAA Game Development)

We are seeking a skilled Character Artist to create highly detailed and realistic characters for AAA game titles. As a Character Artist, you will be responsible for bringing characters to life through modeling, texturing, and sculpting, ensuring they fit seamlessly into the game’s world and narrative. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of human anatomy, proportions, and a keen eye for detail, able to create both realistic and stylized characters depending on the project needs.
Responsibilities:
Design, model, and texture high-quality, game-ready character assets from concept art and references.
Sculpt highly detailed high-poly models and optimize them into low-poly assets suitable for in-game performance.
Create realistic skin, clothing, and accessory textures using advanced materials and shading techniques.
Collaborate with rigging and animation teams to ensure characters are properly structured for motion and gameplay.
Ensure characters adhere to the technical limitations of game engines and maintain high visual fidelity.
Receive and iterate on feedback to achieve the desired level of quality.
Required Tools:
Maya or 3DS Max (for character modeling and rigging)
ZBrush (for high-detail sculpting)
Blender (for additional modeling and sculpting)
Substance Painter/Designer (for texturing and material creation)
Photoshop (for texture painting and editing)
Marvelous Designer (for realistic clothing and fabric simulations)
Unreal Engine or Unity (for character integration and testing)
Marmoset Toolbag (for rendering and presentation)
Qualifications:
Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality character models for AAA games, including a mix of humanoid, creature, and stylized designs.
Expert knowledge of human and creature anatomy, proportions, and facial structures.
Experience with creating both high-poly and optimized low-poly characters for real-time applications.
Proficiency in UV mapping, texturing, and materials for skin, hair, and clothing.
Ability to work closely with animators and riggers to ensure models meet gameplay and animation requirements.
Knowledge of character pipeline workflows and technical optimization for game engines.
